The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil conflict, erupted in May 1999. Pakistani forces infiltrated into Indian-controlled territory in the Kargil district, occupying strategic heights along the Line of Control (LoC) between the two countries.
Aftermath: The Resolution of the Conflict
The conflict lasted for two months and ended with the withdrawal of Pakistani troops on July 26, 1999. The Indian victory is commemorated annually on July 26 as Kargil Vijay Diwas (Kargil Victory Day).
